Planning Scheme Amendments

Amendments prepared by the Growth Areas Authority

To implement precinct structure plans around Melbourne the Growth Areas Authority prepares amendments to municipal planning schemes. People affected by these amendments have the opportunity to submit their views and ask for changes to an amendment. The GAA will take these views into account and finalise a recommendation to the Minister for Planning on the approval of an amendment. The Minister for Planning makes the final decision on the approval of amendments.

Part 3 (and in some cases Division 5 of Part 4) of the Planning and Environment Act 1987 applies to these planning scheme amendments. The Growth Areas Authority is a planning authority for amendments relating to implementation of precinct structure plans under Section 9 of the Act in Melbourne's growth areas under Ministerial Authorisation A01217.

Amendments prepared by Councils and other public authorities

The GAA may authorise growth areas Councils and public authorities to prepare amendments in growth areas. A Council may only be authorised to prepare an amendment in their municipality. A public authority may be authorised to prepare an amendment to a scheme in any growth area municipality.
